He started wrestling in the Deep South Wrestling under the name of Dalip Singh. He had his first appearance in the Deep South Wrestling roster on 9th February 2006 when two wrestlers named Freakin Decon and Palmer Cannon were fighting with Tommy Dreamer but Khali came in and saved Tommy Dreamer from them. On February 16th, Khali was pitted in a Handicap match against the Tag team of The Slaughter Boys, whom Khali defeated with ease.

Afterwards a Feud resumed between Freakin Deacon and Palmer Cannon, Khali took the side of Palmer Cannon who was the face between the two as a face would ideally do. Khali helped Palmer Cannon a lot of times. Afterwards Freakin Deacon joined both of them as well and they all teamed up in a few matches. Khali's Final match with Deep South Wrestling was on 30th March 2006 when he helped Freakin Deacon defeat Ray Gordy in a singles match.

After this match, Khali started appearing on WWE Smackdown from 7th April 2006. For more information see the "Khali on Smackdown!" section
